School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-5 --Four poems about fairies serve as accompanying texts to Petillo's full-page and double-spread color paintings. The artwork is obviously the purpose of the book and, as it is predictable and pedestrian, readers might well heed the opening line of William Ruscoe's ``The Butterfly's Ball''--``Come take up your hats, and away let us haste.'' For an imaginative treatment of 19th-century fairy poetry, see Jane Breskin Z alben's illustrations for Jane Yolen's An Invitation to the Butterfly Ball (Philomel, 1983). --Kathleen Whalin, formerly at Public Library of Columbus and Franklin County, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
